The Refuge
الصَّمَدُ
Aṣ-Ṣamad — The Eternal Refuge
اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ
Allah, the eternally Besought of all
Surah Al-Ikhlāṣ (112:2)
Niyet
Today, I will bring one need directly to Aṣ-Ṣamad — knowing that His refuge often reaches me through the human support, medicine, and professionals He has placed in my path.
Tefekkür
Aṣ-Ṣamad is The Eternal Refuge — the One to whom all creation turns in need, who Himself needs nothing and no one. Aṣ-Ṣamad is solid, permanent, self-sufficient. When you have nowhere else to go, when every human door has closed, Aṣ-Ṣamad is the door that remains. He does not need you, but He wants you to need Him.
Bu ayet üzerine
Two words that contain an entire theology of dependency. Everything depends on Him. He depends on nothing.
Dua
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ الَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ
O Allah, I ask You by my testimony that You are Allah, there is no deity except You, the One, the Eternal Refuge, who begets not nor is begotten, and to whom none is comparable.
Sunan Abī Dāwūd 1493 (graded ṣaḥīḥ)
Using His Names as a means of du’a. When you invoke Aṣ-Ṣamad, you are declaring: I have nowhere else to go.
Hadis
The Prophet (peace be upon him) heard a man say this du’a and said: “He has asked Allah by His Greatest Name, which if He is asked by it He gives, and if He is called upon by it He answers.”
