The One Everyone Needs

28 Dhul Hijjah 1447

الصَّمَدُ

Aṣ-ṢamadThe Eternal Refuge

اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ

Allah, the eternally Besought of all

Surah Al-Ikhlāṣ (112:2)

ارادہ

Today, I will turn to Aṣ-Ṣamad with one need I have been trying to handle alone, and I will be grateful that I have Someone to turn to.

تدبر

Aṣ-Ṣamad is The Eternal Refuge — the One to whom all creation turns in need, who Himself has no need. Every du'a you have ever made was an act of turning to Aṣ-Ṣamad. And here is the gratitude within it: He does not need you to ask, but He loves that you do. He does not need your gratitude, but He rewards it. The relationship is entirely one-sided in your favour — you need Him completely, and He enriches you completely.

آیت پر تدبر

Aṣ-Ṣamad — the one everything turns to, the one who is turned to for every need. The scholars say this Name contains every other Name because everything returns to Him.

O Allah, I ask You by my testimony that You are Allah, there is no deity except You, the One, the Eternal Refuge, who begets not nor is begotten, and to whom none is comparable.

Sunan Abī Dāwūd 1493, graded ṣaḥīḥ by Al-Albānī

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said about a man who prayed with these words: 'He has asked Allah by His Greatest Name, the one by which He gives when asked.' Al-Aḥad Aṣ-Ṣamad together — the key to answered du'a.

حدیث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Ask Allah by His Greatest Name. When asked by it, He gives; when called upon by it, He responds.'
