Watched Over in Patience

٥ ذو الحجة ١٤٤٧

الرَّقِيبُ

Ar-RaqībThe Watchful

وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ رَّقِيبًا

It is not allowed thee to take (other) women henceforth, nor that thou shouldst change them for other wives even though their beauty pleased thee, save those whom thy right hand possesseth. And Allah is ever Watcher over all things

Surah Al-Aḥzāb (33:52)

النية

Today, I will be patient in a way that only Allah will see.

تأمّل

Ar-Raqīb is The Watchful — the One who observes you at every moment, in every state, through every trial. When you are patient in the dark — when no one sees, when no one will ever know — Ar-Raqīb is watching. He sees the tears you hide, the anger you swallow, the prayers you make at 2am. Your patience is never unwitnessed.

في هذه الآية

Over all things — your private patience, your silent struggle, your invisible endurance. He watches it all.

دعاء

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَشْيَتَكَ فِي الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ

O Allah, I ask You for consciousness of You both in private and in public.

Sunan an-Nasāʾī 1305, graded ṣaḥīḥ

In private and in public — because the real test of character is not how you behave when watched by people, but how you behave when watched only by Allah.

حديث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Iḥsān is to worship Allah as if you see Him; and if you cannot see Him, then indeed He sees you.'

Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 50, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 8
