Watched Over in Preparation

٦ ربيع الأول ١٤٤٨

الرَّقِيبُ

Ar-RaqībThe Watchful

إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا

O mankind! Be careful of your duty to your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate and from them twain hath spread abroad a multitude of men and women. Be careful of your duty toward Allah in Whom ye claim (your rights) of one another, and toward the wombs (that bare you). Lo! Allah hath been a watcher over you

Surah An-Nisāʾ (4:1)

النية

Today, I will worship in private as if Ar-Raqīb has a camera in my room — because He does.

تأمّل

Ar-Raqīb at cosmic scale watches over every process in creation: every mitosis, every orbit, every chemical bond. Nothing happens unobserved. In Shaʿbān, this means your preparation is seen. Every night prayer you add, every bad habit you resist, every Quran page you read — Ar-Raqīb is witnessing it. Prepare with iḥsān — worship as if you see Him, knowing that He sees you.

في هذه الآية

ʿAlaykum — over you, specifically. Not just over creation in general. Over you, personally, right now.

دعاء

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَشْيَتَكَ فِي الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ

O Allah, I ask You for consciousness of You in private and in public.

Sunan an-Nasāʾī 1305, graded ṣaḥīḥ

Private and public — because the quality of your private worship determines the quality of your Ramadan.

حديث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Iḥsān is to worship Allah as if you see Him; and if you cannot see Him, then know that He sees you.'

Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 50, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 8
