Strength Through Emptiness
١٤ ربيع الأول ١٤٤٨
الْقَوِيُّ
Al-Qawiyy — The Most Strong
O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, even as it was prescribed for those before you, that ye may ward off (evil)
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183)
النية
Today, I will draw strength not from achievement but from remembrance — making room for Al-Qawiyy in my awareness.
تأمّل
Al-Qawiyy on the second day: as Ramadan deepens, the spiritual practice begins to clear inner space. The mystics call it tajrīd: stripping away the unnecessary — distractions, autopilot habits, the noise that fills our days. When the soul has more room, you discover layers of yourself beyond mere routine. Al-Qawiyy's strength is most available when you make space for Him in your awareness. (The 'emptiness' here is the quieting of the ego and the busyness of the mind — not a physical ideal. Your body needs nourishment to worship; nothing about Al-Qawiyy's strength requires you to be physically depleted.)
في هذه الآية
That you may attain taqwa — laʿallakum tattaqūn. The purpose of fasting is not hunger. It is God-consciousness. The hunger is just the door.
دعاء
اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ
O Allah, help me to remember You, to be grateful to You, and to worship You beautifully.
Sunan Abī Dāwūd 1522, graded ṣaḥīḥ
The du'a of Mu'ādh — asking for help with the three pillars: remembrance, gratitude, and beauty in worship. In Ramadan, all three intensify.
حديث
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Fasting is a shield. When any of you is fasting, he should not speak obscenely or act ignorantly. If someone fights him or insults him, let him say: I am fasting.'
