الْوَلِيُّ

Al-Waliyy — The Protecting Friend

اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ ۖ

Allah is the Protecting Guardian of those who believe. He bringeth them out of darkness into light. As for those who disbelieve, their patrons are false deities. They bring them out of light into darkness. Such are rightful owners of the Fire. They will abide therein

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:257)

النية

Today, I will fast knowing I have a Waliyy — a Friend who sees every moment of my hunger and counts it as worship.

تأمّل

Al-Waliyy on day four — you are not fasting alone. The entire ummah fasts with you: a billion people, across every timezone, sharing the same hunger, the same thirst, the same waiting. And beyond the ummah, Al-Waliyy is with you in the fast. He is the One who prescribed it, and He accompanies you through it. The fasting person has a special closeness to Al-Waliyy — because in the fast, there is no one to impress except Him. It is the most private act of worship.

في هذه الآية

From darknesses to light — and Ramadan is the most powerful light-switch of the year. Twenty-nine or thirty days of being pulled from every darkness into His nūr.

دعاء

For You I fasted — laka ṣumtu. The fast belongs to Him. And the food that ends it also belongs to Him. Both the hunger and the relief are His.

حديث

In a ḥadīth qudsī, Allah says: 'Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting — it is for Me, and I shall reward it.'
