Alive in Ramadan

الْمُحْيِي

Al-Muḥyī — The Giver of Life

أَوَمَن كَانَ مَيْتًا فَأَحْيَيْنَاهُ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُ نُورًا يَمْشِي بِهِ فِي النَّاسِ

Is he who was dead and We have raised him unto life, and set for him a light wherein he walketh among men, as him whose similitude is in utter darkness whence he cannot emerge? Thus is their conduct made fairseeming for the disbelievers

Today, I will let Ramadan revive one thing that has gone quiet in my spiritual life.

تأمّل

Al-Muḥyī in Ramadan gives life in ways no other month can. The tarāwīḥ prayers bring the masjid alive. The iftar tables bring communities alive. The Quran recitation brings the night alive. And inside you, something that was dormant is stirring awake. Al-Muḥyī is reviving parts of your soul that eleven months of routine had put to sleep. Let them wake.

في هذه الآية

Dead and then alive — maytan fa-aḥyaynāhu. Ramadan is resurrection while you are still breathing.

دعاء

Calling upon the Living One to revive what has died in you. In Ramadan, this call is louder.

حديث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to exert himself in worship during Ramadan more than at any other time.
