الْعَلِيُّ
Al-‘Aliyy — The Most High
وَلَا يَؤُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
Allah! There is no God save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtaketh Him. Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His throne includeth the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255)
النية
Today, in sujūd, I will pause a moment longer and feel the distance between my forehead and His majesty.
تأمّل
Al-‘Aliyy is The Most High. Not high in the sense of distant, but high in the sense of transcendent. Above every category you place Him in. Above every image your mind creates. Above every limitation your language imposes. He is nearer than your jugular vein and higher than the highest heaven — simultaneously.
في هذه الآية
Preserving the heavens and the earth does not tire Him. The Most High is never fatigued by the weight of what He carries — including you.
دعاء
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى
Glory be to my Lord, the Most High.
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 772
Said in sujūd, the lowest physical position. When your forehead touches the ground, your tongue declares His height. The lowest posture meets the highest Name.
حديث
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration, so increase your du’a therein.”
— Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 482
