The Life That Does Not End

١٤ رمضان ١٤٤٧

الْحَيُّ

Al-ḤayyThe Ever-Living

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ ۚ

Allah! There is no God save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtaketh Him. Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His throne includeth the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255) — Āyat al-Kursī

النية

Today, I will recite Āyat al-Kursī with the awareness that every word describes a living, active, present God.

تأمّل

Al-Ḥayy is The Ever-Living — the One whose existence has no beginning and no end, who never sleeps, never tires, never fades. When everything around you is temporary, Al-Ḥayy is the permanence underneath it all. Your moments pass; His life does not. Your energy wanes; His never does. Lean on the One who never runs out.

في هذه الآية

Neither drowsiness nor sleep. While you rest, He watches. While you are unconscious, He sustains. The Ever-Living does not take breaks from being God.

دعاء

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ أَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ

O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining, by Your mercy I seek help. Rectify all my affairs.

Al-Mustadrak 1/545 (graded ḥasan)

A comprehensive du’a — rectify ALL my affairs. When you call on Al-Ḥayy, you call on the One who has the energy and the permanence to handle everything.

حديث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Āyat al-Kursī is the greatest verse in the Book of Allah.”
