الجبّار الرفيق

الْجَبَّارُ

Al-Jabbār The Compeller

وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ

And when I sicken, then He healeth me

Surah Ash-Shu‘arāʼ (26:80)

النية

Today, I will name one thing in me that is broken, and ask Al-Jabbār to mend it.

تأمّل

Al-Jabbār is The Compeller, but not in the way tyrants compel. His jabr includes mending what is broken. In Arabic, al-jabr means to set a bone, to repair a fracture. He is the One who compels broken things back together. Whatever is fractured in you right now. He is the One who mends it.

في هذه الآية

Ibrahim, peace be upon him, attributed the illness to himself but the cure to Allah. A model of adab with the Divine: we own our condition, and He owns the healing.

دعاء

اللَّهُمَّ اجْبُرْنِي وَارْحَمْنِي

O Allah, mend me and have mercy on me.

Sunan Abī Dāwūd 850 (graded ṣaḥīḥ)

Said between the two prostrations in prayer. Every rak‘ah carries a moment of asking to be mended.

حديث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say between the two prostrations: 'O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, mend me, guide me, and provide for me.'

Sunan Abī Dāwūd 850 (ṣaḥīḥ)
