Grateful for Life Itself

الْمُحْيِي

Al-Muḥyī — The Giver of Life

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا

And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life

Surah An-Najm (53:44)

Niat

Today, I will take three conscious breaths and thank Allah for each one.

Renungan

Al-Muḥyī is The Giver of Life — and life is the prerequisite for every other blessing. Before you can be grateful for anything, you must first be alive to feel gratitude. The heartbeat you did not ask for. The breath that continues while you sleep. The cells that repair themselves without your instruction. Al-Muḥyī is working inside you at this very moment, sustaining a life you did not create and cannot maintain on your own.

Causes death and gives life — in that order. Death comes first because life is the gift. You do not start from life and lose it; you start from non-existence and are given it.

Doa

Calling upon The Living One — because He who is alive forever is the only one who can sustain your temporary life.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before your busyness, and your life before your death.'
