الْعَفُوُّ

Al-‘Afuww — The Pardoner

وَلْيَعْفُوا وَلْيَصْفَحُوا ۗ أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَن يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۗ

And let not those who possess dignity and ease among you swear not to give to the near of kin and to the needy, and to fugitives for the cause of Allah. Let them forgive and show indulgence. Yearn ye not that Allah may forgive you? Allah is Forgiving, Merciful

Niat

Today is Eid. I will celebrate with joy, gratitude, and the freedom of someone who has been pardoned by Al-ʿAfuww.

Renungan

Al-ʿAfuww on Eid al-Fitr: you have been pardoned. The fast is over. The gates of Paradise that were opened remain open for you. The devils that were chained are released — but you are different now. You have thirty days of training in your body and soul. Al-ʿAfuww did not just forgive your sins; He erased them. You walk into Shawwāl clean. The truth is: when the garment inevitably gathers dust again, you know exactly which Lord to return to for cleansing.

On Eid, extend the pardon you received. If Allah pardoned your entire Ramadan of imperfections, pardon the people around you for theirs.

Doa

The greeting of Eid — not congratulations but a du'a. Acceptance is the hope. Acceptance is the gift. (Note: The six days of Shawwāl mentioned in the hadith may be fasted consecutively or scattered throughout the month. Classical Mālikī fiqh — recorded in al-Muwaṭṭaʾ — considered fasting them immediately and consecutively after Eid as makruh, to protect the boundary of Ramaḍān; many other traditions highly encourage them, including immediately after Eid. Both approaches are valid; follow the position of your madhab.)

Hadis

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever fasts Ramadan then follows it with six days of Shawwāl, it is as if he fasted the entire year.'
