The Gift Before the Asking

الْوَهَّابُ

Al-Wahhāb — The Bestower

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ

Our Lord! Cause not our hearts to stray after Thou hast guided us, and bestow upon us mercy from Thy Presence. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Bestower

Surah Āl ‘Imrān (3:8)

ارادہ

Today, I will notice one unbidden gift — something I did not ask for but received — and say alhamdulillah.

تدبر

Al-Wahhāb is The Bestower — the One who gives without being asked, without condition, without expectation of return. A gift from Al-Wahhāb is not payment. It is not a transaction. It is pure generosity. Think of the last good thing that arrived in your life unbidden — that was wahb.

آیت پر تدبر

Grant us — hab. The same root as Al-Wahhāb. Guidance itself is a gift, and the prayer asks that the gift not be withdrawn.

دعا

The prayer of Zakariyyā, peace be upon him, in old age. He asked for what seemed impossible, and Al-Wahhāb gave.

حدیث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Give gifts to one another and you will love one another.”
