Awe and Honour

ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ

Dhul-Jalāli wal-Ikrām — Lord of Majesty and Generosity

تَبَارَكَ اسْمُ رَبِّكَ ذِي الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ

Blessed be the name of thy Lord, Mighty and glorious

Surah Ar-Raḥmān (55:78)

ارادہ

Today, my devotion will hold both awe and love — trembling before His majesty while trusting in His honour.

تدبر

Dhul-Jalāli wal-Ikrām — the Owner of Majesty and Honour. Two qualities that seem opposite: jalāl is awe-inspiring grandeur that makes you tremble, and ikrām is generous honour that draws you near. The devoted heart holds both: it trembles before His majesty and is drawn near by His generosity. This tension — between awe and intimacy — is the beating heart of Islamic worship. You approach the Throne with bare feet and a full heart.

آیت پر تدبر

The last verse of Surah Ar-Raḥmān — after listing blessing after blessing, the surah ends with this declaration. All those blessings flow from the One who owns both majesty and honour.

دعا

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Be persistent in calling upon Allah using Yā Dhal-Jalāli wal-Ikrām.' Persistence — ālizzū. Keep saying it. Keep calling upon the One who owns both awe and generosity.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Be persistent in calling upon: Yā Dhal-Jalāli wal-Ikrām.'
