Never Unwatched

24 Sha'ban 1447

الرَّقِيبُ

Ar-RaqībThe Watchful

إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيبًا

O mankind! Be careful of your duty to your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate and from them twain hath spread abroad a multitude of men and women. Be careful of your duty toward Allah in Whom ye claim (your rights) of one another, and toward the wombs (that bare you). Lo! Allah hath been a watcher over you

Surah An-Nisāʼ (4:1)

ارادہ

Today, I will act as though I am watched with love — because I am.

تدبر

Ar-Raqīb is The Watchful — but this watching is not surveillance. It is care. A mother watches her sleeping child not to catch wrongdoing but because she loves. Ar-Raqīb watches you with attention that is protective, not punitive. You are never unsupervised in the cosmos. You are never unattended.

آیت پر تدبر

Over you — not against you, but over you. The watchfulness is positional: He is above, watching over, guarding.

دعا

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَشْيَتَكَ فِي الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ

O Allah, I ask You for consciousness of You in private and in public.

Sunan an-Nasāʼī 1305 (graded ṣaḥīḥ)

The prayer to be the same person in private as in public. When you know Ar-Raqīb is always present, the distinction fades.

حدیث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Fear Allah wherever you are, follow a bad deed with a good deed and it will erase it, and treat people with good character.”

Sunan at-Tirmidhī 1987 (graded ḥasan)
