The One Who Holds It All Together

15 Ramadan 1447

الْقَيُّومُ

Al-QayyūmThe Self-Sustaining

وَعَنَتِ الْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَيِّ الْقَيُّومِ ۖ

And faces humble themselves before the Living, the Eternal. And he who beareth (a burden of) wrongdoing is indeed a failure (on that day)

Surah Ṭā-Hā (20:111)

ارادہ

Today, I will acknowledge one system in my life that runs without my effort — my heartbeat, my breathing, the sunrise — and thank Al-Qayyūm.

تدبر

Al-Qayyūm is The Self-Sustaining, The Sustainer of All. He does not need creation, but creation needs Him — every atom, every moment, every heartbeat is sustained by Al-Qayyūm. If He withdrew His sustaining for a single instant, everything would collapse. You are held together by a force that never tires of holding you.

آیت پر تدبر

All faces humbled. On that Day, every pretence of self-sufficiency dissolves. The truth that Al-Qayyūm held everything together becomes undeniable.

دعا

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ

O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining.

Sunan at-Tirmidhī 3524

Two Names that are often called upon together. Life and sustenance — the twin pillars of existence.

حدیث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The greatest Name of Allah, which if He is called by it He responds, is in these two verses: ‘And your God is one God, there is no deity except Him, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful’ and the opening of Āl ‘Imrān: ‘Alif Lam Mim. Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining.’”

Sunan Abī Dāwūd 1496 (graded ṣaḥīḥ)
