Making Peace Between People

السَّلَـٰمُ

As-Salām — The Source of Peace

إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْكُمْ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

The believers are naught else than brothers. Therefore make peace between your brethren and observe your duty to Allah that haply ye may obtain mercy

Surah Al-Ḥujurāt (49:10)

النية

Today, I will take one step toward healing a safe, salvageable relationship — or, where the estrangement is from genuine harm, I will leave it in His hands and protect my peace. Reconciliation is not always the form As-Salām takes; sometimes peace requires distance.

تأمّل

As-Salām is The Source of Peace — and peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the active presence of harmony. In the relational lens, this Name calls you to be a peacemaker. The Prophet (peace be upon him) considered reconciling between people as greater than voluntary prayer, fasting, and charity. When you heal a rift between two hearts, you are doing the work of As-Salām on earth.

في هذه الآية

Brotherhood is declared as fact — then the command follows: reconcile. Because brothers will disagree. The question is never whether conflict will arise, but whether someone will step forward to heal it.

دعاء

A du'a the Prophet (peace be upon him) made for his community — asking Allah to mend what is between hearts. Because only He can truly reconcile what humans have torn apart. (As-Salām's peace often reaches us through practical effort: difficult conversations, professional support, and patient repair work. Faith and therapy are not opposites — both are means He places in our path.)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Shall I not tell you of something better than the rank of fasting, prayer, and charity?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Reconciling between people.'
