الْقُدُّوسُ

Al-Quddūs — The Most Holy

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اجْتَنِبُوا كَثِيرًا مِّنَ الظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعْضَ الظَّنِّ إِثْمٌ ۖ وَلَا تَجَسَّسُوا وَلَا يَغْتَب بَّعْضُكُم بَعْضًا ۚ

O ye who believe! Shun much suspicion; for lo! some suspicion is a crime. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you love to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Ye abhor that (so abhor the other)! And keep your duty (to Allah). Lo! Allah is Relenting, Merciful

Today, I will not say anything about anyone that I would not say to their face.

تأمّل

Al-Quddūs is The Pure, The Holy — free from every defect. In the relational lens, this Name speaks to what we bring into our interactions. Backbiting, gossip, sarcasm, passive aggression — these are impurities that corrode relationships from the inside. The student of knowledge who carries Al-Quddūs in their heart guards their tongue as fiercely as they guard their prayer. Because the tongue can destroy in seconds what took years to build.

في هذه الآية

Three prohibitions in one verse: suspicion, spying, and backbiting. Each one poisons relationships. Allah groups them together because they form a chain — suspicion leads to spying, which leads to backbiting.

دعاء

The Prophet (peace be upon him) sought refuge from the evil of his own faculties — not from external enemies. The most dangerous enemy lives behind your own teeth.

حديث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent.'
