Al-Jalīl — The Majestic

تَبَارَكَ اسْمُ رَبِّكَ ذِي الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ

Blessed be the name of thy Lord, Mighty and glorious

Surah Ar-Raḥmān (55:78)

النية

Today, I will respond to every situation with the dignity I wish to be remembered for.

تأمّل

Al-Jalīl is The Majestic — possessed of jalāl, a grandeur that inspires awe. In relationships, patience is not servility — it is dignity. The patient person is not a doormat; they are someone who has decided that their response will be majestic, not reactive. There is a jalāl to the person who, when wronged, does not lower themselves to the level of the wrong. They respond from a higher place. That is patience as dignity.

في هذه الآية

Dhul-Jalāli wal-Ikrām — the Owner of both majesty and generosity. True dignity is always paired with kindness. One without the other is incomplete.

دعاء

The Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged persistence in calling upon Allah with this Name. Short, powerful, encompassing both His awe and His generosity.

حديث

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Be persistent in calling upon Allah using: Yā Dhal-Jalāli wal-Ikrām.'
