Day 112

Seeing Beauty in Differences

5 Dhul Qi'dah 1447

الْمُصَوَّرُ

Al-MuṣawwirThe Fashioner

And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. Lo! herein indeed are portents for men of knowledge

Surah Ar-Rūm (30:22)

Intention

Today, I will appreciate one thing about someone who is very different from me.

Reflection

Al-Muṣawwir is The Fashioner of Forms — the artist behind every face you have ever seen. No two faces are identical, no two voices, no two fingerprints. He did not create a world of sameness; He created a world of infinite variety. In relationships, this Name calls you to celebrate differences rather than merely tolerate them. The person who thinks differently from you, who looks different, who worships differently within the bounds of Islam — they were fashioned by the same hand that fashioned you, and the variety was intentional.

On this verse

Diversity of language and colour is listed among His signs — alongside the creation of the heavens and the earth. That is how significant He considers variety.

Du'a

اللَّهُمَّ كَمَا حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِي فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِي

O Allah, just as You made my outward form beautiful, make my character beautiful.

Musnad Aḥmad 3823, graded ṣaḥīḥ by Al-Albānī

The Prophet (peace be upon him) connected the two — outward form and inner character. Both are fashioned, but the inner is where the real work happens.

Hadith

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'O people, your Lord is one and your father is one. There is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, or of a non-Arab over an Arab, or of a red-skinned person over a dark-skinned person, or of a dark-skinned person over a red-skinned person, except by piety.'

Musnad Aḥmad 23489, graded ṣaḥīḥ by Al-Albānī
