Al-Karīm — The Generous

اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ

Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous

Surah Al-ʿAlaq (96:3)

Intention

Today, I will be generous with my patience — giving someone more grace than they expect.

Reflection

Al-Karīm is The Most Generous — and generosity takes many forms. Sometimes the most generous thing you can offer someone is your patience. The patience of a parent with a struggling child. The patience of a teacher with a slow learner. The patience of a friend with someone going through the same crisis for the third time. This kind of patience is not tolerance — it is karam, generosity of spirit.

On this verse

The very first attribute mentioned after the command to read: generosity. Knowledge and generosity are linked from the very beginning of revelation.

Du'a

A simple du'a that connects karam (generosity) with ʿafw (pardoning). The most generous act is to pardon — and the most generous people are those who pardon most.

Hadith

The Prophet (peace be upon him) was the most generous of people. He was even more generous in Ramadan when Jibrīl would meet him to review the Quran.
