He Responds to the Patient
6 Dhul Hijjah 1447
الْمُجِيبُ
Al-Mujīb — The Responsive
وَإِذَا سَأَلَكَ عِبَادِي عَنِّي فَإِنِّي قَرِيبٌ ۖ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ ۖ
And when My servants question thee concerning Me, then surely I am nigh. I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he crieth unto Me. So let them hear My call and let them trust in Me, in order that they may be led aright
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:186)
Intention
Today, I will make one du'a I have stopped making and trust that Al-Mujīb has not stopped listening.
Reflection
Al-Mujīb is The Responsive One — the One who answers. And patience is the key that unlocks His response. How many du'as went unanswered not because He was not listening, but because you gave up one prayer before the answer arrived? Al-Mujīb responds — but sometimes the response is: wait. And that waiting is itself the answer, because the waiting is building something inside you that the immediate answer would not have built.
On this verse
No intermediary. No 'tell them.' When they ask about Me, I am near. The most intimate verse about du'a in the entire Quran — and it promises response, not the specific outcome you requested.
Du'a
رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
And when Abraham and Ishmael were raising the foundations of the House, (Abraham prayed): Our Lord! Accept from us (this duty). Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Hearer, the Knower
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:127)
The du'a of Ibrāhīm and Ismāʿīl while building the Ka'bah — they built, and they asked for acceptance. Action paired with prayer, effort paired with trust.
Hadith
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The du'a of any one of you is answered as long as he is not impatient. He says: I called upon my Lord but He did not answer me.'
