الْخَافِضُ

Al-Khāfiḍ — The Abaser

وَتِلْكَ الْأَيَّامُ نُدَاوِلُهَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ

If ye have received a blow, the (disbelieving) people have received a blow the like thereof. These are (only) the vicissitudes which We cause to follow one another for mankind, to the end that Allah may know those who believe and may choose witnesses from among you; and Allah loveth not wrong-doers

Intention

Today, I will do one small act of service that no one will see or thank me for.

Reflection

Al-Khāfiḍ is The Abaser — the One who lowers. This Name is not cruelty; it is correction. When something has risen beyond its station — an ego, a tyrant, a false belief in your own self-sufficiency — Al-Khāfiḍ gently or firmly brings it back to earth. Humility is not humiliation. It is coming home to your actual size.

On this verse

We alternate them. Rise and fall are not random — they are administered. Today’s height and tomorrow’s humbling are both part of the same wise plan.

Du'a

A prayer against the disease that Al-Khāfiḍ exists to cure.

Hadith

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The arrogant will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection like ants in the form of men. Humiliation will overwhelm them from every side.'
