The Eternal Refuge in Ramadan

الصَّمَدُ
Aṣ-Ṣamad — The Eternal Refuge
اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ
Allah, the eternally Besought of all
Surah Al-Ikhlāṣ (112:2)
Intention
Today, I will let the fast teach me my real need — and turn to Aṣ-Ṣamad without pretence.
Reflection
Aṣ-Ṣamad in Ramadan — every creature turns to Him, and in Ramadan, the turning is intensified. The hungry turn to Him. The sleepless turn to Him. The sinful turn to Him. Aṣ-Ṣamad is the One everyone needs, and Ramadan is the month where that need is most honestly felt. You cannot pretend you do not need Him when your stomach is empty and your eyes are heavy. Ramadan strips the pretence and leaves the need — and He meets it.
On this verse
Aṣ-Ṣamad — the one to whom all creation turns. In Ramadan, you feel the turning in your bones.
Du'a
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ الْأَحَدُ الصَّمَدُ الَّذِي لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ
O Allah, I ask You by my testimony that You are Allah, there is no deity except You, the One, the Eternal Refuge, who begets not nor is begotten, and to whom none is comparable.
Sunan Abī Dāwūd 1493, graded ṣaḥīḥ by Al-Albānī
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said this man asked by Allah's Greatest Name. Al-Aḥad Aṣ-Ṣamad — the key to answered du'a. Use it especially in Ramadan.
Hadith
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Three supplications are not rejected: the supplication of the fasting person, the supplication of the just ruler, and the supplication of the oppressed.'
