Forgiveness Without Limit
15 Sha'ban 1447
الْغَفُورُ
Al-Ghafūr — The All-Forgiving
نَبِّئْ عِبَادِي أَنِّي أَنَا الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
Announce, (O Muhammad) unto My slaves that verily I am the Forgiving, the Merciful
Surah Al-Ḥijr (15:49)
Intention
Today, I will ask forgiveness for one specific thing I have been avoiding — and trust that Al-Ghafūr is already ready.
Reflection
Al-Ghafūr is The All-Forgiving. Not the sometimes-forgiving or the grudgingly-forgiving. All. The scope of this Name is meant to overwhelm the scope of your sin. Whatever you have done, Al-Ghafūr is larger. Whatever you have carried in shame, His forgiveness is wider. You will not exhaust it.
On this verse
Inform them — this is a command to the Prophet (peace be upon him) to make sure people know. Allah wants you to know this about Himself. He is making sure the message reaches you.
Du'a
رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost
Surah Al-A‘rāf (7:23)
The first du’a of the first humans. Adam and Hawwa, peace be upon them, spoke these words. Forgiveness has been the first need since the beginning.
Hadith
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “By the One in whose hand is my soul, if you did not sin, Allah would replace you with people who would sin and seek His forgiveness, and He would forgive them.”
