Day 39

The One Who Sustains

20 Sha'ban 1447

الْمُقِيتُ

Al-MuqītThe Sustainer

وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُّقِيتًا

Whoso interveneth in a good cause will have the reward thereof, and whoso interveneth in an evil cause will bear the consequence thereof. Allah overseeth all things

Surah An-Nisāʼ (4:85)

Intention

Today, I will eat one meal mindfully, conscious that every bite is sustained by Al-Muqīt.

Reflection

Al-Muqīt is The Sustainer — the One who maintains everything in existence, moment by moment. Your heart does not beat by its own effort. Your lungs do not fill by their own will. Al-Muqīt sustains the systems that sustain you, invisibly, continuously, without interruption. Right now, as you read this, He is sustaining you.

On this verse

Over all things. Not just over the big things, the impressive things, the things you pray about. All things. The smallest cell, the quietest moment, the most ordinary Tuesday.

Du'a

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيمَا رَزَقْتَنَا

O Allah, bless for us what You have provided us.

Sunan at-Tirmidhī 3455 (graded ṣaḥīḥ)

Said before eating. A prayer that the sustenance is not just sufficient but blessed — that it nourishes more than the body.

Hadith

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Allah is pleased with the servant who eats a morsel and praises Him for it, or drinks a sip and praises Him for it.'

Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2734
