Day 41
Majesty Without Distance
22 Sha'ban 1447
الْجَلِيلُ
Al-Jalīl — The Majestic
وَيَبْقَى وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ
There remaineth but the Countenance of thy Lord of Might and Glory
Surah Ar-Raḥmān (55:27)
Intention
Today, I will stand in prayer and feel both the closeness and the vastness.
Reflection
Al-Jalīl is The Majestic — possessing jalāl, the awe-inspiring dimension of the Divine. Where beauty (jamāl) draws you close, majesty (jalāl) reminds you of the vastness. Both are needed. A God who is only gentle becomes trivial. A God who is only majestic becomes terrifying. Al-Jalīl holds both: close enough to love, vast enough to revere.
On this verse
Everything perishes except His Face. The majestic and the generous — both endure. When everything else fades, jalāl remains.
Du'a
يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ
O Lord of Majesty and Generosity.
Sunan at-Tirmidhī 3524 (graded ṣaḥīḥ)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged calling upon Allah with this Name. It captures both dimensions: His grandeur and His giving.
Hadith
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Persist in calling: Yā Dhal-Jalāli wal-Ikrām.”
