الْمَتِينُ

Al-Matīn — The Firm

لَا إِكْرَاهَ فِي الدِّينِ ۖ قَد تَّبَيَّنَ الرُّشْدُ مِنَ الْغَيِّ ۚ فَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِالطَّاغُوتِ وَيُؤْمِن بِاللَّهِ فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقَى لَا انفِصَامَ لَهَا ۗ

There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is henceforth distinct from error. And he who rejecteth false deities and believeth in Allah hath grasped a firm handhold which will never break. Allah is Hearer, Knower

Intention

Today, I will not be shaken by one piece of bad news. I will remember that the ground beneath me is Al-Matīn.

Reflection

Al-Matīn is The Firm — the One whose attributes do not weaken, whose resolve does not fray, whose promise does not erode. In a world of shifting sands and broken guarantees, Al-Matīn is the ground that holds. When everything around you feels unstable, He is the firmness beneath it all.

On this verse

The 'firmest handhold' (al-ʿurwah al-wuthqā) — unbreakable, unyielding. This is the linguistic heart of Al-Matīn: a firmness that holds you when everything else gives way. You do not need to be strong. You need to hold on to what is Strong.

Du'a

The “firm word” — al-qawl ath-thābit — is lā ilāha illallāh. Firmness begins with the testimony of faith.

Hadith

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “No fatigue, illness, anxiety, grief, harm, or sorrow befalls a Muslim — even the pricking of a thorn — except that Allah expiates some of his sins thereby.”
