I have tattoos from before I converted. Do I have to remove them?

No. You do not need to remove existing tattoos if it is painful or expensive.

- scholarly consensus
A convert is not burdened with removing past markings if it causes harm or hardship
Scholarly consensus that pre-Islam tattoos do not need removal
That your wudu is invalid because water doesn't reach the skin under the ink. Tattoos are under the skin layers, so water does touch the surface skin.
Leave them be. They are marks of your past, and your guidance is a sign of Allah's mercy. You have nothing to be ashamed of before Allah.
