Ar-Rāfi‘ — The Exalter

وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا

And the high hills bulwarks

النية

Today, I will do one act of worship that no one sees — building the foundation that Ramadan will elevate.

تأمّل

Ar-Rāfiʿ at cosmic scale raises mountains from flat plains, lifts clouds from oceans, elevates species from simplicity to complexity. The Himalayas were once seabed. Al-Rāfiʿ took the lowest and made it the highest. In Shaʿbān, this is the promise: the preparation you do now — the fasting, the Quran, the dhikr — will elevate you in Ramadan. The work done in obscurity produces the heights achieved in the sacred month.

في هذه الآية

Mountains as stakes — awtādan. They anchor the earth, prevent it from shifting. The geological reality: mountains stabilise tectonic plates. Ar-Rāfiʿ raises them precisely where stability is needed.

دعاء

The du'a of anticipation — asking to be elevated to reach Ramadan. Not everyone who enters Shaʿbān exits it. The request to arrive is itself an act of gratitude for the journey.

حديث

Usāmah ibn Zayd asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, I do not see you fasting in any month as much as you fast in Shaʿbān.' He said: 'That is a month to which people do not pay attention, between Rajab and Ramadan. It is a month in which deeds are raised to the Lord of the worlds, and I love for my deeds to be raised while I am fasting.'
