الشَّكُورُ

Ash-Shakūr — The Appreciative

مَا يَفْعَلُ اللَّهُ بِعَذَابِكُمْ إِن شَكَرْتُمْ وَآمَنتُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيمًا

What concern hath Allah for your punishment if ye are thankful (for His mercies) and believe (in Him)? Allah was ever Responsive, Aware

Surah An-Nisāʾ (4:147)

Intention

Today, I will notice and appreciate one small act of patience from someone around me — and tell them I noticed.

Reflection

Ash-Shakūr is The Most Appreciative — the One who rewards the smallest act with the greatest return. You offer a date in charity; He multiplies it until it becomes a mountain. You swallow your anger once; He writes it as a deed that tips the scales. Ash-Shakūr does not overlook your patience. He does not consider it ordinary. He considers it extraordinary — and rewards it accordingly.

On this verse

What would Allah do with your punishment? This is a stunning verse — suggesting that punishment is not Allah's goal. Gratitude and faith are enough. He does not want to punish; He wants to appreciate.

Du'a

Said when something good happens — acknowledging that the completion of every good thing is itself a favour from Him. Gratitude for the ability to be grateful.

Hadith

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah.'
