الْعَلِيمُ
Al-‘Alīm — The All-Knowing
And with Him are the keys of the Invisible. None but He knoweth them. And He knoweth what is in the land and the sea. Not a leaf falleth but He knoweth it, not a grain amid the darkness of the earth, naught of wet or dry but (it is noted) in a clear record
Surah Al-An'ām (6:59)
Intention
Today, I will make one decision by first saying the istikhārah — trusting His knowledge over my guesswork.
Reflection
Al-ʿAlīm at cosmic scale knows every particle in the universe — every electron's position, every photon's path, every thought in every mind across all of time. The sum total of all human knowledge ever accumulated is less than a single drop in the ocean of what Al-ʿAlīm knows. And yet this infinite knowledge is not cold data — it is intimate. He knows the cosmos AND He knows what your heart whispered at 3am.
On this verse
Not a leaf falls — wamā tasquṭu min waraqah. Every single leaf, on every single tree, in every single forest, across the entire planet. He knows each one.
Du'a
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ
O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge and I seek strength through Your power.
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1166
Istikhārah opens by invoking His knowledge — because He knows the outcome you cannot see.
Hadith
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'None of you will die until he has received his provision in full, so seek it in the proper way.'
