Nothing Escapes the Count

الْمُحْصِي

Al-Muḥṣī — The Counter

وَأَحْصَى كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عَدَدًا

That He may know that they have indeed conveyed the messages of their Lord. He surroundeth all their doings, and He keepeth count of all things

Surah Al-Jinn (72:28)

Intention

Today, I will count my blessings — literally, on my fingers. Not as a practice of positivity, but as an act of worship.

Reflection

Al-Muḥṣī is The Counter — the One who enumerates everything. Every leaf that falls, every breath you take, every good deed and every misstep. This might feel daunting, but it is also deeply comforting: nothing you do is unnoticed. The small act of charity that embarrassed you because it felt too little? Counted. The du’a you made in traffic? Counted.

On this verse

All things. Not just the important things. Everything has a number with Al-Muḥṣī. Your life is not lived in vague approximation. It is counted, precisely.

Du'a

An easy reckoning is one where the account is reviewed but not scrutinised harshly. A prayer for divine generosity in the counting.

Hadith

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Do not belittle any good deed, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face.”
